Why Your Insurance Company Matters.

You would think that with all the rules and regulations that the government has created to regulate businesses, that insurance companies would essentially be the same. There might be some small price differences from one policy to the next, but are you really getting the same service from each company?

How many times do you find yourself driving in your car and hearing 4 or 5 different commercials for car insurance? I bet you could tell me the slogan or spokesperson for 2 or 3 insurance companies without hesitation. But besides cute TV characters or catchy slogans, what do you really know about your insurance company? How are they to deal with when you have an emergency or file a claim? Which one will promptly pay your claim or bills and which ones will put up a fight?

The American Association for Justice which is an association of trial lawyers, recently released a study of the Top 10 Worst Insurance Companies. They looked at business practices, customer complaints, litigation and claims management. Companies included on this list have denied claims for hurricane damage, claiming it was flood damage, they intimidated engineering firms assessing property damage, they have delayed claims hoping that the claimant will either get frustrated and drop the claim or even in some cases they are hoping the claimant will pass away before they have to pay on the claim or care. Is this someone you want to trust to help you in case of an emergency?

According to the American Association of Justice the Top 10 Worst Insurance Companies are:

1. Allstate
2. Unum
3. AIG
4. State Farm
5. Conseco
6. WellPoint
7. Farmers
8. UnitedHealth
9. Torchmark
10. Liberty Mutual
